Hand Tufting

A lot of our clients aren’t fully aware of what hand tufting means so we thought we would explain! Hand tufting is the process of tufting the yarn through the carpet or rug backing. Firstly our pure cotton carpet canvas is measured and then the design is either screen printed or digitally printed on to this like a piece of artwork. The benefit of the modern printed version is both accuracy and complexity. Each area of the design is individually hand tufted using a small hand held gun which shoots the yarn through from the back to the front of the rug or carpet. This is an extremely lengthy process as each colour or fibre is tufted separately. Our talented production teams have to be steady handed and exceptionally precise down to a fraction of a millimetre. It can take years of experience to become a high grade hand tufter. Once the entire design has been hand tufted, the unfinished piece is laid out and then a natural latex is applied to the reverse of the piece. This locks each yarn into canvas to create a stable surface. The carpet is then sheared or carved by hand if required and…

Cleaning

Today we are going to talk about cleaning carpets, not the most glamorous subject but something we often get asked about. There are various options and techniques depending on which fibre your carpet is made from. We now have the option to add Stain Resist to the yarn during the dyeing process. This is the most effective way of protecting bamboo and silk in particular as it coats the outside of the yarn and therefore completely protects the yarn, unlike spray systems which are added after the carpet is produced and effectively only cover the surface of the the carpet with little penetration down the yarn tufts towards the backing. The Stain Resist system prevents spillages from entering the yarn as it is coated with a polymer coating. The end-user therefor has time to blot up the spillage and remove it entirely. Of course this should be done as soon as possible after the spillage, as over time, the liquid will find it’s way down the outside of the yarn to the the base of the carpet where it is much more difficult to lift out and may eventually stain the backing. This process does not effect the look or…

Bamboo

Bamboo is the latest must-have product for the home. For quite some time now bamboo has been used for screens and fences in gardens offering a chic and natural look to any outside area. It has also been widely specified for hard flooring and shutter blinds and the demand for bamboo clothing, sheets and towels is on the rise. And now, you can even order bamboo carpets and rugs. The desire for bamboo is not surprising when you consider its benefits. Firstly, it is an extremely flexible material that can be made into a hard wood or an extremely soft textile. We are now offering an incredible range of bamboo carpets and rugs that rival the silk products which have proved so popular over the last few years. With a feel and look that is just as luxurious as silk and prices that are approximately half that of silk, bamboo is fast becoming our most popular product. These carpets and rugs can also be made to any specification, any colour, any design and any shape, making them suited to almost any installation. Secondly, at a time when we are all becoming increasingly concerned for the well being of our planet,…

Summer Shades

Summer is officially blooming and we have been run off our feet creating beautiful bespoke hand made rugs and carpets for outside and in. A soft seating area is the perfect place to relax and soak up the rays and who wouldn't love a hand woven rug underfoot. We offer an extensive number of shades within our outdoor range of water and fade resistant yarns and for indoors, well the possibilities are endless! This summer we have found that shades of blue with gold or bronze have been a popular choice. We love lustrous hand tufted silk and bamboo in metallic shades but we also offer metallic thread if you're after that extra sparkle. This works really well looped into wool or silk, our top picks this season are shades of bronze and copper and these look amazing with this summers trend for blues and greys. When creating a bespoke rug or carpet, the process really is exciting. Usually a client will produce something that has inspired them, which could be a piece of fabric, a photograph or a painting. We then work closely to match the colours, and create artwork. Next the yarn is dyed to match the brief…

Colour

At Concept we are inspired by this years Pantone Colour of the Year. Have a read below and take a look at some of the beautiful rugs and carpets we have created with these soft, harmonious tones. ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY PANTONE 13-1520 & PANTONE 15-3919 A softer take on colour for 2016: For the first time, the blending of two shades – Rose Quartz and Serenity are chosen as the PANTONE Colour of the Year. As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colours that psychologically fulfil our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of colour association. In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted colour trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to colour is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity,…
