Decorex 2023

We were thrilled to welcome so many potential new and existing clients onto our stand at Decorex this year. Our stand design this year mirrored our current design direction embracing a playful and dramatic style through use of bold pattern clash, layered design and using colour as an anchor to bring these eclectic mixes together. Our new design collections 'Fragments' and 'Flora and Fauna' were also on display showcasing highly skilled technique in both hand tufting and traditional hand knotting. We were delighted by the comments of visitors to the stand who commented on how different our offering was and the "Wow" factor of our stair runner was a firm favourite amongst the exhibition goers.

Decorex 2022

We were very excited to be exhibiting for the first time at Decorex International this year. Our stand featured a bold design with a full size hand tufted rug falling down one wall and across the floor and furnishings showcasing the natural materials such as jute and bamboo that we like to use in our carpets and rugs. We got a fantastic response from the visitors to our stand and it was really lovely to chat all things carpets and rugs with new designers and existing customers alike. The feedback on the stand and the products was overwhelmingly positive and we want to thank everyone who took the time to come and talk to us. We look forward to the next one!

We were very honoured and excited to win an award at the Design et al International Design & Architecture Awards for the collaborative work that we did with the amazing team at Helen Green Design. We, along with other suppliers for the project, joined the designers in winning the Global Project award. A prestigious award that took into account projects entered into every award category. It was a fantastic project to work on and it's always a pleasure to work with designers as talented as the team at HGD. We were so excited to see other projects that we have supplied rugs on winning awards as well in other categories such as Residential 10 million plus, Hotel Design, and Luxury Residence London and our congratulations go to the fantastic designer behind those projects as well.

Planning for the future

We’re very excited to announce the arrival of a new recruit to Concept Hand Tufting.  Charles’ daughter, Ellie Lean, has joined us this week, initially as Sales and Marketing Director, but with the long term goal of taking over running the business. Those of you who have worked with us for over 10 years will remember that Ellie (then Ellie Lawton) worked at Concept Hand Tufting in sales for 3 years in the late 2000s. Since then she has worked as an Account Manager in a PR agency and, for the last 7 years, has been running an independent bakery with her husband, Matt. Managing Director, Charles said, “Despite the unique and challenging times that 2020 have brought, we are as busy as ever at Concept and we’re thrilled to be able to start planning for the succession of the business. We have no doubt that, under the new management, Concept will continue to grow and thrive for many years to come.” As a fifth generation textile business director, Ellie is excited to be back in the world of carpets. “My great-great grandfather opened a yarn-spinning business with his son Frank in Huddersfield in 1902. Fred Lawton & Son Ltd…

Virtual Design Consulations

Design studio visits, face to face creative thinking and working with such an array of design styles and projects is our passion. This way of working, as for many, has been set aside to make way for the new normal. We have been working successfully with a number of design professionals here in the UK and overseas throughout this global crisis. Adopting new ways to communicate creatively and efficiently, we are now offering virtual design meetings to discuss your ongoing projects, new enquiries or to view our latest house collection. From taking a design brief, consulting on colours with fabric and finish samples, to producing a considered rug story presentation for digital issue. With our in-house design team, wealth of knowledge and interior design experience we are well placed to advise on design options to work in harmony with your creative vision. Our keen eye for colour, superior quality artwork and fine sampling result in some truly spectacular results.

Hand Tufting

A lot of our clients aren’t fully aware of what hand tufting means so we thought we would explain! Hand tufting is the process of tufting the yarn through the carpet or rug backing. Firstly our pure cotton carpet canvas is measured and then the design is either screen printed or digitally printed on to this like a piece of artwork. The benefit of the modern printed version is both accuracy and complexity. Each area of the design is individually hand tufted using a small hand held gun which shoots the yarn through from the back to the front of the rug or carpet. This is an extremely lengthy process as each colour or fibre is tufted separately. Our talented production teams have to be steady handed and exceptionally precise down to a fraction of a millimetre. It can take years of experience to become a high grade hand tufter. Once the entire design has been hand tufted, the unfinished piece is laid out and then a natural latex is applied to the reverse of the piece. This locks each yarn into canvas to create a stable surface. The carpet is then sheared or carved by hand if required and…
