Hand Tufting
A lot of our clients aren’t fully aware of what hand tufting means so we thought we would explain! Hand tufting is the process of tufting the yarn through the carpet or rug backing. Firstly our pure cotton carpet canvas is measured and then the design is either screen printed or digitally printed on to this like a piece of artwork. The benefit of the modern printed version is both accuracy and complexity. Each area of the design is individually hand tufted using a small hand held gun which shoots the yarn through from the back to the front of the rug or carpet. This is an extremely lengthy process as each colour or fibre is tufted separately. Our talented production teams have to be steady handed and exceptionally precise down to a fraction of a millimetre. It can take years of experience to become a high grade hand tufter. Once the entire design has been hand tufted, the unfinished piece is laid out and then a natural latex is applied to the reverse of the piece.
