Our Team

A boutique business blending decades of handtufting experience with a passion for outstanding design, Concept is a world renowned designer and supplier of bespoke carpets and rugs.

Our dedicated and enthusiastic team brings together backgrounds in fashion and interior design, alongside a couple of “lifers” who started their careers at Concept and are now integral to the running of the business.

Our Founders

Concept was started by Charles and Amy Lawton. Charles is the fourth generation of Lawtons who were at the helm of the highly successful yarn spinning mill, Fred Lawton and Son Ltd. This was where he met Amy, who was head hunted for her expertise as a leading colour specialist in the carpet industry.

Together they brought extensive colour, design, engineering and business skills to their new endeavour, establishing Concept Hand Tufting as an innovative and daring carpet designer.

In 2024 Charles retired, passing the running of the company to his daughter Ellie and taking textiles into a fifth generation of the family!

Our textile heritage

Fred Lawton and Son Ltd was established in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire in 1902 and grew to be one of most prominent textile businesses in the UK.

At Concept we bring this family heritage to our service, and, as the only carpet and rug specialist in the UK with a yarn spinning background, our knowledge of this niche area of interior decor is unparalleled. As a result, fibre is at the core of our design and specification work.

Our ethos

A beautiful carpet or rug can, and should, be a key feature of every space. That’s why we spend time providing a considered, confidential and personal service to every single client that we work with. Our aim is to produce something unique, from the finest natural materials, that both we and you will be proud of.

We believe in building trusted partnerships with interior designer and trade customers, and provide guiding advice and a safe pair of hands to ensure complete confidence in the carpet or rug specification.

Our raw materials

Fibres used include pure wool, silk, cotton and linen, which are 100% biodegradable and sourced exclusively from ethical, reputable suppliers. Wool, silk, cotton and linen are rapidly renewable resources.

At Concept we particularly champion wool, with its impressive ‘green’ qualities, which is non toxic, easy to clean and removes pollutants from other elements of the indoor environment over periods as long as 20 years.
